Chutney

Chutneys originally come from India. Chutneys in India are like salsas; They are cooked or fresh; hot or sweet and are made up of combinations of fruits, vegetables and spices; they are used as little sauces for main dishes, bread or fried foods.

American chutneys are typically made of fruit (fresh and dried) cooked down in a sweet vinegar solution with spices. They make a great accompaniment to grilled meats; deli meats and cheeses; dressings and marinades.
